Our first storm just passed through and, as usual, closed Tioga Pass & Badger Pass. We expect more to come for Christmas. Of course, it is easy to access us and Yosemite Valley, Hetch Hetchy, etc., here on the west side of the Sierras. Who know, the passes may open again, but we all look forward to Yosemite’s Ski & Snowboard Area opening, even though it is not have a lot of vertical it is still fun, especially for families or novices taking classes. Rentals and tickets are reasonable and there is a Ski Bus from Yosemite Valley if you don’t want to chain up, you can use YARTS Yosemite Shuttle from the Bug to meet it.
The Bug is a great base of operations for your Winter Yosemite exploration! We also recommend staying at Ostrander Ski Hut, Glacier Point Ski Hut, Snow Creek Cabin or Wilderness Snow Camping for a XC overnight fun and use our food and hot tub for comfort on the way in or out. The Half Dome Village Ski Rink will open in Half Dome Village soon, albeit much smaller. Book the Sleigh Rides at the South Entrance before the Christmas Holidays! Family Snow Play areas also abound!
There is ALWAYS HIKING in Yosemite at winter! Any of the Valley hikes are open at east halfway and I will post recommendations on our Facebook and set a Winter Itinerary in WordPress in soon. Hetch Hetchy is warm and has waterfalls. And we also rent snowshoes for those who want to go down into Tuolumne and Merced Sequoia Groves this winter, where is is spectacular in deep snow months. On the edge of winter hiking boots will do! We are very excited for this winter to COME ON DOWN!

YOSEMITE HEALTH SPA
There are those who stay here, or eat here, because one thought cannot escape their mind: The oxygenated hot tub and essential oils hot rocks sauna. In the winter months it’s hard not to love this wonderful place. Remember we have therapists on call weekdays and onsite weekends for massage and herbals rubs for your happily tired winter body; warm up in the sauna first. Do not forget the new tubs with essential oil salt and herbal baths in a private room. You will feel great again to conquer the next day!
SNOW AND TIRE CHAIN
Now REMEMBER, it is much cheaper to buy your snow cable at home before you come up! It is VERY unlikely you will need them but the Park Service wants them in you car at all times. We do rent them in the office in case for many sizes. On this Highway 140 entrance there are never restrictions to get to the Bug, and 98% of the time there are no restrictions getting to Yosemite Valley on Highway 140. When it does it is usually during or just after a storm. Highway 41 and 120 chain restrictions happen often in winter. You can always take the YARTS shuttle from us into Yosemite Valley to make it easy!
